THE ALARM
From Rhyl, Wales, England. Led by Mike Peters (vocals/guitar) with Dave Sharp (guitar), Nigel Twist (drums) and Eddie McDonald (bass). The band's original name was Seventeen. Political rock that shouted its singular battle cry in the 1980's, they gave U2 a serious run for their money in the anthemic rock race. They also had an unusual but admirable practice of simultaneously releasing some of their albums in both English and their native Welsh tongue. After the band split, Peters found himself diagnosed with several bouts of cancer but has mostly kept it in remission. He formed a band with former members of The Cult, as Coloursound but that promising set-up was confined to one release before the bulk of the band reunited with their ex-lead singer and revived their own careers. Peters has since played some dates under the Alarm name and restarted the band as "Mike Peters & The Alarm". The group reunited for a one time performance in 2003. In late 2005, Peters announced that his cancer had returned but that he will fight it aggressively and is doing well as of 2009. 1982-91/2002-present.
