ADAM & THE ANTS
From London. Stuart Goddard was originally involved with a group called Bazooka Joe when he witnessed a performance by The Sex Pistols and decided to change his name and style completely. The new Adam Ant hopped on board the new romantic movement visually utilizing American Indian make-up combined with pirate wear! His first band line-up defected on him when he turned to Malcom McLaren for management tips. The result, his band became Bow Wow Wow and he had to build a new set of Ants from scratch. His second line-up was more stable with the defined sound of Marco Pirroni's guitar who he lifted from Siouxsie & The Banshees. Members came and went, including Kevin Mooney who would leave to form Wide Boy Awake. Through time though, all of Adam's solo albums still feature Pirroni's trademark sound. Adam took a second career as a B-movie actor, no doubt started by his appearance in Derek Jarman's punk movie "Jubilee" in 1978. In 2002 and 2003, Ant was arrested twice for disorderly conduct and both times admitted to psychiatric hospitals for observation. 1978-present.
