ABC
From Sheffield, England. Led by Martin Fry (vocals) with Stephen Singleton (saxophone), Mark White (guitar), Mark Lickley (bass) and David Palmer (drums). Today Fry is ABC, the band's original vocalist who continues to work with studio musicians under the ABC title, even though he was the last to join the group. The band was originally named Vice-Versa and released a four song EP under that name in 1979. The tremendous success of the Trevor Horn produced "Lexicon Of Love" heralded in ABC as not only a new romantic figurehead but also the sound produced a new type of alternative pop with nods to both the new dance scene and older disco era. Palmer left the band to join Yellow Magic Orchestra. Their limited output in the 90's was due to Fry's frail health brought on by Hodgkin's disease. ABC define the smooth, new romantic style of white pop and soul. After a six year absence the band released a new studio album in 1997. 1981-present.
